Activity 1 what is the purpose of concept art

Where would you find Concept Art?

Who does Concept Art?

Concept Art is a series of drawings designed by an artist for future development.
The drawings are basic character ideas for a film/animation or even a computer game.
Concept Art is a form of illustration where the main goal is to convey a visual representation of a design.

Where would you find Concept Art?

You would find Concept Art in character development studios/ Game booklets/ Film booklets of the purchased item.
You can find Concept art all over the web as well as in booklets. Often developers offer Concept Art booklets as a inside peek if purchased special edition or limited edition products.

What is the purpose of Concept art?

In conceptual art the idea or concept is the most important aspect of the work. When an artist uses a conceptual form of art, it means that all of the planning and decisions are made beforehand and the execution is a perfunctory affair. The idea becomes a machine that makes the art.

Halo 3 Concept Art by Bungie: The Concept Art of Bungie's game "Halo" is based in the future with spaceships and futuristic weapons and environments. The Concept Art of the "armour design" is very detailed from shading to tiny screws and bolts. The Final Design of the armour is Highly Detailed and realistic, Detail/Texture from dents to scratches and even rust.

Concept Art by Blizzard: Concept Art from Blizzard don't go for a realistic approach when coming to designing a video game such as WarCraft. They seem to like the idea of a cartoony feel to match their Fantasy style of gameplay. Not much shading is used when designing their characters but enough detail to give a rough brief and outline of what they want their characters to look like. For a dark evil character they would use dark colours from red's/Purple's,  Even different shades of black and grey. This style is not what I would use for my game however this style of drawing matches this game perfectly. The style of this game is Fantasy/Prehistoric with the medieval Myths and Legends Elements to the game.

Concept Art of Star Wars by Lucas Arts: The Concept Art of this image from Lucas Arts seems like a scene from a Film/Game. The image is showing robotic androids accompanying a women character that seems to be standing in a heroic pose pointing straight out to me that she may be the main character or even just a good character. The character on the right in black is a Villain and his face is hidden in a dark black mask with his back shown towards us as a mysterious character. The style of this concept art to me just seems like a film idea rather than a game idea as it seems like an interactive scene from a film. After giving my review on this image It could even be from a cut scene in a video game such as "The Force Unleashed" or a future Star Wars game.

Concept Art of Skyrim by Bethesda: The concept Art in Skyrim is just truly Amazing. The image is showing a monster leaping towards a hero with a sword and shield in combat showing a great motion of combat. The image is very powerful with the poses the two characters are executing in sense that this is an action scene and the Hero is using his shield to parry the attack of the monster. The image is so Highly detailed that you can even see the hairs on the characters arms and head with very thin lines (IF ZOOMED IN) the detail used in this image must of taken some months or even years to complete. The image is very moving and inspiring to drawing images of my own. The style of this game is Historical as it is based in Medieval times but also in the Dino age as their are Dragons and other Mythological creatures that you seek within the game.
